Edem wins Best International Act Africa at 2015 Black Canadian Awards..

Ghanaian rapper, Denning Edem Hotor Edem, known on stage as Edem has won the Best International Act-Africa at 2015 Black Canadian Awards.

The ‘Koene’ hit singer beat Mafikizolo (South Africa), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Davido (Nigeria), Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Oritse Femi (Nigeria), and Teeyah (Ivory Coast) to win the award.

The rapper thanked God and Ghanaians for their support which he said helped him emerge victorious at the event.

He posted on Instagram: “Thank God.....Thank you Ghana #blackcanadianawards#Edem #vrmg #gogetem #internationalact”

The star-studded awards night, at the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Theatre, Toronto, Canada Saturday night witnessed some exciting performances from Leila Dey, Lisa Banton, Lorraine Scott and Jay Harmony and a host of others.

Edem continues to reap the fruits of his hugely successful album, ‘Books & Rhymes’, He is adding the Black Canadian Awards trophy to those he bagged at the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

The album won him ‘Album of the Year’, ‘Afro-Pop Song of the Year’ and ‘Best Music Video of the Year’ at the April 11 awards at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).

Other winners at the 2015 Black Canadian Awards included Destra Garcia of Trinidad who won Best International Act Caribbean for the second year in a role, Emmanuel Jal, won Best African Style Artist, and Elijha Hammill won for Best Male Actor.

Amanda Brugel was adjudged Best Female Actor, Lisa Banton won Best RnB Act, Dan-e-o won Best Hip Hop Act, KellyLee Evans won Best Jazz/Soul Act, while Best Urban Dance went to Shameka Blake.

The others are Tasha T, who won Best Caribbean Style Artist, Donnett Thompson-Hall won Best Gospel Artist, Powerhouse Fellowship Soul Choir won Best Gospel Group, DJ Mel Boogie won for Best DJ, and Trish won Best Pop Artist.

The rest are, Artist on the Rise was won by Flo from Winnipeg, Spoken Word went to Dwayne Morgan, Latoya Forever won Best Entertainer, Scott Laurie won Best Media Personality, Beni Boo won Fashion, Best Blogger winner was ThePurrr by PepperBrooks, Lawrence Kerr won Best photography and The Book of Negroes by Lawrence Hill won Best Writer & Literary work.

I Thought I Wouldn't Win Because of My Absence

Prolific Ewe Rapper Edem has won the award for Best International Act Africa at the 2015 Black Canadian Awards.

The Ghanaian Rapper beat 6 of Africa’s brightest stars including Mafikizolo (South Africa), Yemi Alade (Nigeria), Eddy Kenzo (Uganda), Davido (Nigeria), Oritse Femi (Nigeria), and Teeyah (Ivory Coast) who were in the same category.

Confirming the good news to Peacefmonline.com this morning, Edem who was unable to be present at the awards ceremony said “Basically I am very grateful and excited about the fact that I was nominated in the first place and even going ahead to ignite against my other competitors. I am always using all the platforms available to say a big thank you to Ghana and the fans because I couldn’t have voted myself into winning and the love and how I was trending on social media and how people kept pushing me was amazing. So am grateful to the Edem fans and the media”.

Asked if he is surprise the “Ghetto Arise” Singer said he was very hopeful but he and his management were not overly optimistic.

About why he couldn’t make it to Canada to receive the award himself, Edem said he had another engagement elsewhere so it was just impossible for him to attended the awards ceremony and he though his absence could affect him to win the award but thing turned out differently.

“Personally I was thing may be my absence from the awards might be a factor that would go against me because the other nominees who would be present might be considered. Those were my thoughts until I had an official communication that I actually won”.

He added that even though he couldn’t make it, he sent a VRMG representative who received the award on his behalf. The “Over Again” Rapper also disclosed that his plaque will officially arrive in Ghana on June 16, 2015 and he intends to celebrate it with his die-hard fans.    

The awards show was hosted in Toronto Canada on Saturday on June 6th 2015 and winners have been published on the official website.

All the performances delivered a world class perfomance. All credits goes to DOAHL Academy, Lisa Banton, Leila Dey, The Psalmist, SKIBU, Sunset Service, Jay Harmony, Mel C and Xolisa. The 2015 Black Canadian Awards was indeed a night of fun, great performances and honor.
